Each year, educators from all over the city learn how Edible Gardens can become spaces to teach students and engage families in healthy eating and community.

In response to Covid-19 and the unfolding economic crisis, farmers markets, farm stands, and community gardens are recommended strategies for creating economic opportunity within neighborhoods, increasing local food access, expanding nutritious options, and addressing regional food insecurity (USDA).

Together, Urban Harvest’s Saturday and Northeast markets provide economic opportunity for 94 small businesses including farms and ranches, generates an overall economic impact of $4.1 million annually, preserves over 10,100 acres of productive, diversified family farmland, and creates over 600 full-time jobs and many more seasonal jobs for local farm laborers, family growers, and small business entrepreneurs.
